Throughout the year I have been keeping sketchbooks with drawings and designs of potential sculptures but it has been difficult making models that accurately represent the tactile and diverse nature of Steel as a material. Wire is the most effective but joining is difficult without the use of a soldering iron or spot welder, it also doesn’t allow for the same kind of thickness or depth.  Recently I purchased a 3D pen as a cost effective way to try and get around this, a 3D pen works by quickly heating plastic so it can be drawn with and layered. Using this to make small models of potential ideas means I can see how sketches would work as a sculpture without the cost or time of using other materials.
